Dressing Down: Private Life and the Dressing Gown, 1890-1950
Handle with Care: From Baroness to Laundress
Baroness von Kleist (née Edith Berwind 1879-1963), a life-long friend and guest of the lady of the house, is in Newport for a week at the height of the summer season; she plans to attend a dinner and ball being given by her uncle Edward J. Berwind at his cottage, The Elms, on Bellevue Avenue. In the morning, she will place the nightgown she is presently wearing at the edge of her bed.
